Level Up!

When playing a game, generally, you need to collect experience points in order to move on to the next level. Once onto the next level, your tasks become more difficult but in return you collect more experience points. And so the game moves on with things growing more difficult and becoming stronger.

Unfortunately in life this is not how it generally works due to outside factors but there is still a progression if you push yourself and allow it. In the real world, we should look for experience everywhere we can. With the experience, we should learn to apply it for our benefit and help our growth.

In my most recent class, they talked about 3 ways we can collect this experience: Networking, Internships/Jobs/Freelance, and learning how to write.

Networking is this crazy skill that allows you to meet new people through other people and learn how you may benefit from one another so that you may both progress. Most people hate meeting others and communicating but this is so essential to your improvement. Meeting people is how you can get your foot through the door. Networking is how you make the deal and get that sweet moolah. It’s just something you’re going to need to do.

Finding work may be difficult but that what networking is for. Once you have that work, in whatever form, this is where you gain all kinds of experience. you receive new challenging tasks that might even push passed you limits but when has that ever killed anyone. New jobs come with new responsibilities and those give you skills or might enhance the skills you already have. It also looks great on a resume for that next step up.

In making your resume, you practice your writing skills. Writing isn’t just putting words on a paper; it is making a story. On your resume, for example, you are writing the story of you and how you would benefit the company. You may need to write a screenplay that has a narrative to it. A memo telling people the story of why you shouldn’t press your hams on the copier. Maybe you’re even a journalist, and if you don’t have the necessary skills to write your article, you won’t get hired or read. Writing is an essential skill to have and it might even save your life.

All in all, if you’d like to Level Up in life, you’re going to need the experience to do so. So get out there and learn these skills so you can move ahead.
